  • This is to be used as an introduction. It gives an overview of what each is, benefits, and examples.
  • Students will need to be taught more extensively through active participation throughout the year.

  • It could be used in one sitting to overview all of the holidays, or month by month to review what will be happening that month.
  • Students could be given the link to explore on their own, or it could be over viewed as a class.

  • It is a great, all laid out visual for those who students who need to see the big picture. 
  • It could be printed out and used as a poster for the classroom.

Planets

This ThingLink is a visual of the planets in our solar system.
  • It is a great way for students to quiz themselves to help them learn the planets in the solar system by name and where they are located relative to the sun.  
  • This activity could be followed by learning more information about each of the planets.

  •  Identify the planets in the solar system by name and relative location from the sun.

What did you eat today?

While teaching about eating a balanced diet, students can use this survey on Google Forms.
  • This survey is to track what they are actually eating and help them realize whether or not what they are eating is a balanced diet.
  • It should be followed up with class discussions and reflections.

3rd Grade Health Education, Nutrition and Fitness Standard 6, Objective 1a:
  • Record daily food intake.

Opinion Piece


This worksheet can be used to help students learn to write an opinion piece.
  • It gives an outline for giving an introduction, an opinion with reasons for their opinions, and closing the paper. 
  • As a class you will first need to read Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes, then use the worksheet as a guide to write a draft of the paper which could be assigned afterward.
  • This should not be used as an introduction. Students will need to be familiar with the writing process.
Standards this covers:

1st Grade English Language Arts, Writing Standard 1:
  • Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure."
