This worksheet can be used to help students learn to write an opinion piece.
- It gives an outline for giving an introduction, an opinion with reasons for their opinions, and closing the paper.
- As a class you will first need to read Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes, then use the worksheet as a guide to write a draft of the paper which could be assigned afterward.
- This should not be used as an introduction. Students will need to be familiar with the writing process.
1st Grade English Language Arts, Writing Standard 1:
- Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or name the book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply a reason for the opinion, and provide some sense of closure."
- Use technology tools (e.g., multimedia authoring, presentation, web tools, digital cameras, scanners) for individual and collaborative writing, communication, and publishing activities to create knowledge products for audiences inside and outside the classroom.
