Elements of Art

This eMaze was created as a presentation to be given in class on the elements of art.

  • Students will be given a brief overview of each element of art. It will explain what each is and what they look like. Examples of images are given for each. 
  • Students will need to be taught each element more extensively through projects, but this will serve as a basic introduction before going in depth.

  • Students will learn some basic map features, how to find things on a map, and types of maps. 
  • Students will learn some very basic geography.  
  • Students should continue their learning by practicing on their own, this is meant as an introduction and discussion starter.

The Three Branches of Government

This mind map was created using Popplet.

  • This is an example of a completed mind map, but the idea behind this activity is to start from scratch and recreate this popplet as a class as a way to review the material students have learned.
  • Students could also create a poplet on their own as a form of evaluation.

Regrouping using Base 10 Blocks

This video was created using Educreations to help students understand why regrouping in the standard algorithm works.
  • The video uses base 10 blocks to visually explain why you are regrouping numbers in the standard addition algorithm. 
  • This video could be used in several ways, but mainly to have a correct, reliable explanation in your absence. This could be used in case of a substitute teacher, or to put online to show parents as they are trying to help their student with math. It can show parents how it is being taught in the classroom so that they can feel confident as they use similar language and strategies.

3rd Grade Mathematics, Domain: Number and operations in base 10, use place value understanding and properties of operations to perform multi-digit arithmetic number 2:

Pinterest

This Classroom DIY board was created on Pinterest.
  • It has so many fun, money saving DIY projects!
  • It is being added to continually as I find more projects.
  • Many of my favorite projects come from Frogs in First, so be sure to hop on over and check it out!
  • I also love Pinterest for gathering ideas for lesson plans, I have boards for several different subjects that I continually add to as I find new fun and creative ideas. It is such a great resource!

Frog-Copter

Frog-Copter was created using Storybird as an assessment tool.
  • This story has obvious settings, characters, and major events. Students will read the story, then tell you about the setting, characters, and plot line. This will allow you to assess if they understand what each is.
  • This could also be used as a teaching tool instead of as an assessment. The class could read the story together, or in small groups, and answer the same questions to practice.

  • This survey is to track what they are actually eating and help them realize whether or not what they are eating is a balanced diet.
  • It should be followed up with class discussions and reflections.

Opinion Piece


This worksheet can be used to help students learn to write an opinion piece.
  • It gives an outline for giving an introduction, an opinion with reasons for their opinions, and closing the paper. 
  • As a class you will first need to read Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes, then use the worksheet as a guide to write a draft of the paper which could be assigned afterward.
  • This should not be used as an introduction. Students will need to be familiar with the writing process.
